Ninety Seconds Together

On Independence Day, I recommend a short piece by General (Retired) Martin E. Dempsey, the 18th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is currently a Rubenstein fellow at Duke University, Chairman of USA Basketball, and the author of two recent books: Radical Inclusion and No Time for Spectators.

On June 27th at Fort Lee, daughter Michelle was promoted to Brigadier General, one of four women on the list of 32 promotable colonels. During the ceremony, General Dempsey made memorable remarks, then gave the publishing of orders, as he has three prior times in Michelle's Army career.
